Practical, Realistic Weight Loss Tips Are In

Happy Memorial Day! Hopefully everyone is taking some time to balance out, relax, enjoy the weather, and stay close to their family. The downside? Days like today can lead to excess consumption of fatty foods and a tendency to “indulge” a bit too much.

Having extra weight on you can lead to heart problems, diabetes, cancer, and higher blood pressures as youWeight Loss Scale may already be aware of…but just because you know the consequences of being overweight doesn’t necessarily make it easier to lose weight…

I found a nice little insert in the mail from my health insurance company regarding the supposed “38 Best Weight Loss Tips”…I’ve read up and have my areas of agreement and disagreement, so I’d to share the most effective ones with you:

1) breakdown your fat-loss goals; divide up your final weight or fat percentage goal into smaller “sub-goals” and you’ll hit the target and stay on pace quicker.

2) break a sweat for 30 to 60 minutes; the pamphlet says to do this everyday, but in order to avoid fatigue, you’ll want to keep it to about 3 days a week and make time for some weight training as well

3) keep a journal; record what you eat on a daily basis to make it easier to track your consumption of healthy and “not-so-healthy” foods

4) eat a good breakfast; breakfast should be your largest meal as it fuels your day…you’ll burn the most fat in the morning on a typical active day

5) more vegetables, fruit, and whole grains; these foods will fill you up without filling you out

6) smaller portions; use smaller plates and bowls to make sure your consumption is in smaller, more manageable portions

7) skip the booze; alcohol loads you with unnecessary calories and diminishes your power to stay away from other addictions…such as? Over-eating

8) eat slowly; keeping a slow and steady pace will allow you to eat fewer calories while feeling satisfied and full at the same time

9) eat junk-food sparingly; if you cheat once in a while (once a week), you’ll be less likely to screw up and give in to cravings on a daily basis

10) low-fat dairy products; dairy is essential for strong bone health and muscle-building, but regular “fatty” content servings will throw you off track…forget the fat-free, stick with low-fat products

11) take stress out at work; the stress you experience at work is easily taken out on hunger…or other people; lol. Make sure you take your stress out in productive ways…close the door and focus on a project without distractions, get up and walk around…or workout if you have the luxury of doing that during the day

12) make a grocery list; writing down what you’re planning to buy from the store is an easy and effectiveGrocery List way of avoiding filling the cart up in the snack isle

There they are…12 of the 38 best weight loss tips (in my opinion)…this doesn’t mean that there aren’t other tips or sets of advice to help you lose weight…but the other 26 ideas just weren’t all that helpful; I actually found them to be more detrimental than helpful to weight loss (yes, even health insurance companies aren’t really experts at all times); as always, be smart and stay on track.
