Anti-Pharmacy Foods That Heal
We live in a society today where it seems like everybody is sick and medications rule supreme over the battle for healthy lifestyles and functioning…I should have been a pharmacist or doctor.
What often goes the most unnoticed is what we actually put into our bodies…let’s all just go eat some fast food and then supplement with some Hydroxycut and ibuprofen and we’ll feel just as good as someone who’s eating a fresh salad or banana instead.
What’s Wrong With This?
The quick answer is “everything”…the first line of defense in the battlefield against lack of energy, stress, and depression is found in the aisles of your local grocery store….not necessarily at the pharmacy.
More and more research is being conducted on vitamins and minerals found in fruits, veggies, and the below types of food that suggest a short-term AND long-term positive effect on mood, physical health, mental health, and sexual health. Put these foods to work for your body (you can find them at the local supermarket) and avoid common illnesses and malfunctions.
1.
What to Eat When You’re Stressed
Low-fat yogurt and nuts of all types; the two major amino acids found here are lysine and arginine…they lower stress hormones and add a nice touch to your diet.
What NOT to Eat When You’re Stressed
Pop, soda, cola, etc…the caffeine and sugar punch combo in pop makes the drinker anxious and nervous…don’t drink it at all if possible.
2.
How to Increase Your Metabolism
Green Tea; there are tons of antioxidants in tea…especially the strongest known as catechins. Catechins also burn the metabolism and turn it up a notch to rid of excess calories.
How to DECREASE Your Metabolism
Don’t eat anything; skip meals and the body’s metabolism dies…if snacks aren’t spread throughout the day, chances are that metabolism will take the day off. I’ve got a friend who’s cousin’s diet consists of nothing but Mountain Dew and cigarettes all day and one big meal at night…that’s it; guess what? He’s fat.
3.
What to Eat When You Need Energy
Granola, nuts, and fruit; trail mix is an awesome way to bring the body the energy it needs. Raisins convert sugar into energy, nuts boost metabolism and muscle function, and oats provide valuable fiber.
What to AVOID When You Need Energy
Coffee or expresso; the caffeine will spike the body’s blood sugar levels…but after the brief high, a crash comes and steals away any ounce of energy you once had.
4.
How to Give Your Brain a Boost
Blueberries and fish; the antioxidants protect from free radicals and carcinogens and also improve cognitive processing skills. Eat up in the afternoon before a big meeting.
How to Put Your Brain in Slow-Motion
Ice Cream; the sugar in ice cream provides a sugar rush that creates long term imbalance and steals mental abilities associated with focus like a thief in the night.
5.
How to Protect Against Illness
Ginseng Tea; taking Ginseng results in a 25% decrease in the probability of catching a cold. Ginseng aids in virus removal and increases the production of immune blood cells.
How to Welcome and Greet Illness
Caffeinated and energy drinks; taking too much caffeine screws up sleep patterns, which give way to colds, infections, and other types of illness…it also dehydrates and prevent toxins from being excreted; stay away.
6.
What to Eat in the Morning
Eggs and whole-wheat toast; keep it old school for lots of morning protein and prevention of over-eating later on in the day.
What to AVOID in the morning
Bagel with cream cheese; it’s one of the absolute worst ways to start the day…a large combination of fat and carbohydrates drain energy levels and create additional unnecessary hunger. Forget about substitutes as well such as donuts, danish, and pancakes…terrible.
7.
What to Eat to Put You “in the Mood”
Dark Chocolate; cocoa has stimulants that increase sensitivity and good mood…all beneficial factors for sexual activity…especially for women.
What to AVOID Before-hand
Excess alcohol; although your inhibitions may run wild with the first two drinks, additional intake creates sleepiness and toxicity that is nothing but trouble.
Any opinions on this list? Disagree or agree? If there are any additions, please comment below for future consideration…thanks.

wow it’s a cool tips… i must avoiding ice cream for now on… thanks
It’s probably ok to balance your diet with a little ice cream here and then…very few things are to be COMPLETELY avoided. But as you read, also realize that you can substitute the ice cream for a low-fat yogurt for the healthier choice.
It’s not so much about the elimination of elements from your diet, but many times it’s about healthy substitution…a perfect example in this case; thanks!

Isnt just a cup or two of coffee in the morning ok? Ive heard it really starts up your metabolism and gets you going for the day. I just hate how it stains my teeth. What do you think
Yes; having one or two cups of expresso (not latte or fatty coffee concoctions) in the morning is perfectly healthy and may actually be BENEFICIAL to health…but the problem is having just one or two can escalate to 3 or 4 pretty quickly and then on to more; that’s the trouble. A lot of coffee is bad.
Nuts are awesome! The edible kind haha oops. Eating trail mix is one of the best things especially when its homeade because it just fills you up weith energy and keeps yuo going. Great for sports, keep the cool posts coming!
Oh yes! But oh man…does it ever make you poop! For REAL!
Ice Cream is my favorite…:( why does it have to be bad???
I love it too: just had a massive turtle Sunday last night and definitely feel a little guilty about it this morning…all the better excuse to get on the elliptical later on and burn that sucker off!
Probably all 700 calories of it…if I’m lucky.
