What Da Deal, Vitamin D?
You may or may not have heard of the major tanning corporation campaigns on the importance of vitamin D and how its positive effects help your body and mind…personally I like to fake bake here and there but I’m skeptical on the whole Vitamin D deal.
However; vitamin D (whether I choose to accept it or not) is part of a healthy diet regimine; even though its benefits seem to be expanded upon on a daily basis, lots of people are still not receiving enough of it to see any changes in their overall health.
Vitamin D improves calcium absorbtion; it helps out your bones and joints in a major way…if you take in enough, you’re less likely to develop osteoporosis or pain in your joints. In addition, arthritis and even some kinds of cancer are prevented with enough vitamin D (probably not skin cancer though).
In addition to it’s array of benefits, vitamin D is naturally produced by the body…although you can eat your way to a healthy supply. In order for your body to actually produce an adequate amount of vitamin D, you have to get enough sun exposure (hence the mass tanning campaigns…lol whatever). You can usually get the required amount of sunlight for vitamin D production in an hour or less of exposure…so it’s not too difficult to get outside (especially on an amazing day like today) and soak up.
Some people still aren’t getting enough of the vitamin for their own good…one mystery is that as you age, your body reacts less to sunlight in regards to vitamin D production…this could be due to skin cells damaging over-time…but I won’t go there for your sake.
“Derek, I don’t feel like ruining my skin and spending my time and money at the tannger everyday” says you.
“FINE!” I chime in, “just kidding, LOL, sorry to get you all riled up…”
“I forgive you I guess” says you, “Now what are some other ways to incorporate vitamin D into my daily diet you frickin’ moron?”
1) drink your milk; your momma wasn’t lying…milk is foritifed with vitamin D and now you can even buy milk made specially with extra in it…easy!
2) eat fish, eat fish; I always tell people to eat more fish…not just because of the richness of omega-3 fatty acids available in a nice fillet, but also because of the nutrients and vitamins provided…one of them being D.
3) buy a vitamin D supplement; go to the store and buy it…probably the easiest way to get your daily dose.
At the same time the positives happen, you gotta remember that there are negative effects (like everything) involved in taking too much in…if you practice all of the techniques in this article religiously, you’ll probably end up taking in too much vitamin D and throwing your health a major curveball but hey…what do I know? Go ahead…seee your doctor once in a while…mention vitamin D next time too…see what I care (bitterness expressed towards my own not-so-fabulous GP experiences)!
K well I’m going to go hop in the drop-top and grab some grub; peace.
